Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 15,837 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. Specimens collected in various parts of the Kruger National Park.

Project Data

This dataset is a record of the herbarium data held by South African National Parks. The herbarium voucher specimens currently reside at the Skukuza Herbarium, Scientific Services, which was established in the 1950s. The specimens are representative of the plant species that occur in the various regions in the Kruger National Park. The original collection initially started off with ~4 000 specimens that were collected by Mr H. P. Schijff and now constitutes close to 16 000 specimen records.

Sampling Methods

Representative plant specimens collected in the field (including fruit, seeds and flowers were available). Plant specimens go through a serious of other procedures including drying, mounting and labelling, once collected. Once the final mounted specimen is complete, it is deposited in the herbarium as a voucher specimen.
