Samples were collected using a combination of mist nets and using a harp trap across sites.

Method step description:
- We sampled within the northern KNP, South Africa. Sampling at each site will be conducted seasonally using two SM4 Songmeters (Wildlife Acoustics, Concord, MA, USA) and through live-capture. We expect to sample for five consecutive nights in each austral season (with two sites sampled per night). Previous experience has shown that this approach is capable of adequately detecting the majority of bat species present along riverine systems in southern Africa (Parker & Bernard, unpublished data). If permitted by SANParks, we would also like to incorporate night drive transects (active surveys) using an ANABATSD2 with BatSatNav GPS (Titley Scientific, Australia) to complement our passive bat detectors and to provide a better indication of landscape use by bats.
